Benjamin Gibson is an award-winning Toronto-based Canadian photographer and Creative Director whose work explores the tension between beauty and unease, drawing on personal experience and broader social themes such as identity, systems of consumption, and environmental change. Raised in rural Ontario with a deep connection to nature before moving to Toronto at eighteen, he began his artistic practice as a self-taught painter before expanding into film and photography, where technical exploration continues to shape his evolving visual language.
Formally trained in graphic design and later studying Art and Design at Humber College, Gibson attributes much of his development to lived experience and years working in commercial photography, film production, and visual design. His multidisciplinary background informs a practice that often incorporates cinematic techniques, layered composition, and an emphasis on depth and observation.
His work has been exhibited in solo and international juried exhibitions, featured in publications including Divide Magazine, Photographica, and Nauvo Arts Magazine, and recognized with awards such as Third Prize Modern Muse – Photo Artfolio (2025). His book Canada Series 1 was a finalist in the 2025 Urban Photo Book Awards, and his work is held in the archives of the National Gallery of Canada. Gibson continues to exhibit actively, including participation in Toronto’s Artist Project.
