Toronto Old City Hall (The Courts)
Downtown is truly a mix of the old and the new. The decent and the decadent. As generations continue to grow and bring generations after themselves, things inevitably change. Change can be scary. Familiar is comfortable. Victimization is comfortable. Resistance is natural. I used to work for a Real Estate company that sold very high-end condos and loft projects, and later for a hospitality company that operated nightclubs and restaurants. That company got so many complaints about noise as time went on, from the people the other company had sold the downtown lifestyle to earlier. They got just a little bit older and now downtown is just too loud. Maybe in a similar way, what was once a building to run the city, is now a courthouse. What once was a view of leadership is for many now a view of a possible grim future.
